The Foundry’s design is refined, simple and calm, which elegantly provides a framework for mindful and easy living. It forges the way for a design-led community of residents who seek out contemporary ways of living which are intimately connected to the past, the surrounding landscape and the rhythms of life. At each opportunity, architects SJB ensure that nature, history and community present themselves serenely.
The Foundry’s industrial heritage melds aesthetic values, functional efficiency and a dedicated focus on the human element. Crisp architectural lines express a form that represents a modern and adventurous spirit. A sensitive approach to materiality nods respectfully to the building’s history. Comprehensive, considered and integrated landscaping provide a delicate touch; the opportunity to live within nature – not just look at it.
Absolute river frontage with rooftop pool & garden
The building is expressed as three separate elements arranged around a void. Each element is robust and solid, except where the geometries collide. At these junctions the void meets the facade, highlighted by a polished metal vertical component extending towards the sky. Once you leave the sculptural void and enter your residence at The Foundry, you are engulfed in the quietness of your own oasis.
Large, light-filled designer apartments
Internally, the material palette reflects the natural surroundings, the grain of the vegetation, and the grey blues of the Georges River. Communal areas contain hard timbers, metal, iron and concrete, a reference to the site’s industrial past, while the interiors are more soft in contrast, to create warmth in the living spaces. Apartment layouts are logical and symmetrical, with living spaces maximising the usability and flexibility of the floor space. The balconies are generously proportioned, extending the living space – and the eye – outwards, whilst remaining protected from the elements.
